My husband and I have been married for almost forty years now, and we have lived in the same house our entire marriage. The old farmhouse that we live in was built back in the early 1900s. It is quite old. We have done a lot of work on it over the years. We had to update the entire electrical system. I wish that we would have added a new HVAC system as well, but at the time, it was not a priority. It would have been so nice to have a gas furnace or a central air conditioning system. Instead, we are still using the old wood stove that probably dates back to when the house was first built. It is very neat to be able to use such an old stove, but my husband and I are getting old, and chopping wood for the fall and winter months is not easy for us anymore. We find ourselves buying pre chopped wood now which is something we would have never done in the past. We are considering moving to a new place even though we have so many good memories in this house. It is probably the hardest decision to think about. I love our home so much, but it is just way too big for the two of us, and it is also very hard for us to keep up with heating the place during the wintertime. Our pipes froze three times last winter, and that is just not something that we want to deal with this coming winter. We will have to make a decision soon, but I think we are leaning towards renting an apartment for the winter.
