This summer has been the rainiest that I’ve seen in a long time.
Every afternoon like clockwork, the clouds get dark, the thunder starts to rumble, and the heavens open up.
It may last well into the evening, or it may start earlier, in the morning. The thing is, we haven’t even gotten actual hurricanes yet! The more I stare outside of the falling rain and listen to the peels of thunder, the more I’m grateful for the shelter and climate control that I enjoy. I pass homeless people on my drive back home from work in the afternoons, and I see them getting drenched in the rain. It makes me sad for them. They don’t have a nice comfortable home where they can get respite from the terrible weather. Meanwhile, I get to enjoy my dehumidifier, which gets rid of all that heavy, wet air from the rain. I also enjoy my air conditioner, which makes it so nice and cool and breezy. It’s as if the terrible weather isn’t even happening once I step through my front door. We may have a tendency to take such things for granted, but we really shouldn’t. I know one way I make sure I don’t take my climate control for granted is by paying to maintain it so that I can rely on it no matter what. We should take care of the things in our possession that bring us comfort. Otherwise we may not be able to rely on them to continue to do so. That’s why I’m a good steward of the climate control I enjoy!
